Donation & Childcare Rebates

If you made financial donations to a charity, or paid for childcare or a housekeeper (in certain situations), you can claim part of it back as a rebate.

Who can claim?

You can claim a rebate if you: 

tick.gif Earned taxable income during the year you are claiming for 
tick.gif  Were resident in New Zealand at any time during that tax year (including non-residents) 

tick.gif Meet the criteria as set out below:

For Donations

You have receipts that show you donated $5 or more to:

menu_plus.gifan approved charitable organisation

menu_plus.gifan approved New Zealand religious organisation

menu_plus.gifmedical research schools and universities

menu_plus.gifan approved overseas aid funds

menu_plus.gifFree Kindergarten Associations

menu_plus.gifState schools, schools approved as charities for tax purposes, schools boards of trustees, or parent teacher associations. Please note that these payments must be a donations and not a payment of school fees.

For Childcare Payments

A rebate is available for childcare payments in the following situations:


menu_plus.gif You are a single parent who works and pays for childcare services

menu_plus.gif You and your partner both work and pay for childcare services

menu_link.gif Please note that you also need to have receipts to show that you have paid for the childcare

 For Housekeeper Payments

A rebate is available for housekeeper payments in the following situations:

menu_plus.gif Have paid for a housekeeper where you (or your partner) were disabled or physically unable to do the housework.
