Donation & Childcare Rebates
If you made financial donations to a charity, or paid for childcare or a housekeeper (in certain situations), you can claim part of it back as a rebate.
Who can claim?
You can claim a rebate if you:
Earned taxable income during the year you are claiming for
Were resident in New Zealand at any time during that tax year (including non-residents)
Meet the criteria as set out below:
For Donations
You have receipts that show you donated $5 or more to:
an approved charitable organisation
an approved New Zealand religious organisation
medical research schools and universities
an approved overseas aid funds
Free Kindergarten Associations
State schools, schools approved as charities for tax purposes, schools boards of trustees, or parent teacher associations. Please note that these payments must be a donations and not a payment of school fees.

For Childcare Payments
A rebate is available for childcare payments in the following situations:
You are a single parent who works and pays for childcare services
You and your partner both work and pay for childcare services
Please note that you also need to have receipts to show that you have paid for the childcare

For Housekeeper Payments
A rebate is available for housekeeper payments in the following situations:
Have paid for a housekeeper where you (or your partner) were disabled or physically unable to do the housework.
